Gillean Kelly was awarded a 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Student Grant. Through the Fulbright program, Gillean was to be funded by the U.S. federal government to conduct a medical sciences project in Mbarara, Uganda. In Uganda, Gillean was going to conduct a pharmacogenomic study on tuberculosis treatments.

Gillean has decided that, beginning in late July, she will be pursuing both her MD as well as her Masters in Public Health in a dual degree program at the Baylor College of Medicine. Located in Houston, Texas, Baylor is part of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world. Baylor was recently ranked as the #16 best medical school in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, and it is the top medical school in Texas. Gillean, a native Texan, is looking forward to being close to home again. Her current interests include pediatrics, infectious diseases, and women's health.
